Google's Android Market, the primary mobile application store for Android-powered smartphones, has hit the 100,000 application milestone.

The news was announced via the @AndroidDev Twitter account (though is yet to be confirmed via one of Google's more official news channels or blogs) on October 25 and has since been quickly spreading through the microblogs.

On the other side of smartphone town, Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 marketplace has reportedly broken the 1,000 app mark.

Both stores have experienced rapid growth since their launch but are still a fair way behind Apple App Store's approximately 300,000 applications.
