Charlie Sheen rants, sings, gets nearly a million views: viral video spotlight
Wednesday 06 April 2011
A seven-minute nineteen-second video of Charlie Sheen ranting, singing and getting shot by Scarface has attracted nearly a million views on YouTube as of April 6.
The video entitled Charlie Sheen: The Unedited Version is a series of clips of Charlie Sheen, edited together to form a fairly cohesive mock interview.
Uploaded by Charlie Sheen on April 3, the video, as of April 6 12:30 GMT, had attracted 904,811 views and ranked third in YouTube's "most viewed today" chart. The video is a parody of Charlie Sheen's notorious 20/20 interview with Andrea Canning.
The video has attracted attention from blogs and magazines include Entertainment Weekly's Popwatch.
According to YouTube statistics, the video is most popular with men aged between 25-44 and the majority of views come from the United States, Australia and Great Britain.
The mock interview shows Charlie Sheen in a bizarre series of rants, eating in an Elmo bib and smoking cigarettes through his nose. The video then ends with the actor and his band singing the Reo Speedwagon song "Take it on the Run" in a swimming pool before getting shot by movie character Scarface.
The former Two and a Half Men star, once the highest paid actor on TV, has been in the public eye following a series of increasingly bizarre antics which, some suggest, are due to drug use.
While the actor's bizarre behavior has bought him more attention, notably a sold-out tour entitled My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option, many have suggested that he is on a downward spiral of substance abuse and that the actor should receive help - not adoration.
