Current Twitter trends: Australian elections, Singapore Youth Olympic Games, Pakistan floods

"
Scott Pilgrim," the name of a graphic novel turned mainstream film, retains its number one position in the most talked about topic list on Twitter on the morning of August 16.

Newly released movies are a constant source of conversation for microbloggers. " Expendables," an action film with a star-studded cast is up one place to number four while science fiction mind-bender " Inception" is down one place to number five.

The memes "#therewasatimewhen" and "#youdonthavealife" are in second and third place on the charts while "#ausvotes," a hashtag created to talk about the August 23 elections in Australia, is new in sixth place.

Australians are using their 140 characters to share their political views and to make fun of the current political campaigns, saying: "VOTE FOR INTERNET CENSORSHIP!!! Vote Labor," "'Yes we will'?! Labor found an even worse slogan than 'moving forward'. Incredible" and "Fed up with the lack of passion in this election. The winner will be the one who pissed off the fewest people. Sad."

Korean boy band Super Junior played the first two shows of their third Asian Tour over the weekend and Twitter users are talking about them using the acronym for Super Junior: Super Show 3, "SS3."

The name of the US animated TV comedy series " Boondocks" is in eighth place.

The opening celebration for the inaugural Singapore Youth Olympic Games (YOG for short) was held on August 14. "YOG" is currently trending in ninth place on the charts.

"Pakistan" is in tenth place. Twitter users are talking about the devastating flooding in the area and retweeting links to news reports saying that more than 20 million people have been affected.

The top 10 most talked about topics on Twitter on August 16 at 9:30 AM GMT are:

1. Scott Pilgrim (unchanged)
