Current Twitter trends: Super Bowl, Skylar Grey, Egyptians
Tuesday 01 February 2011
As the National Football League (NFL) championship game draws ever closer, the NFL is promoting "#superbowl" to encourage microbloggers to chat about their favorite players and the team they would like to see win.
Twitter's second and third places are taken by the hashtags "#questionsidontlike" and "#wordsineversaid."
Twitter users are sharing their wishes for the month of February with the fourth place hashtag "#februarywish."
The name of American movie " Cooley High" is fifth in the charts and American singer "Skylar Grey" is in sixth place.
The situation in Egypt continues to be a hot topic of discussion for Twitterers. Many tweets praise Google for creating a voicemail to tweet service for Egyptians who are currently faced with an internet blackout.
"[T]his is very cool of Google - Egyptians can tweet by leaving a voicemail, no Internet required: http://is.gd/iww5Pl #egypt #jan25" say microbloggers.
Others are using seventh place topic "Egyptians" and tenth place topic "Cairo" to tweet, "Egyptians camped out in Cairo. For Americans, think of it as like the release of new Apple product if Apple made freedom."
The names of late night talk show hosts "David Letterman" and "Jimmy Fallon" fill eighth and ninth positions in Twitter's most talked about topics.
The top 10 most talked about topics on Twitter on February 1 at 6:30 AM GMT are:
