European jury announces list of best consumer electronic products for 2010-2011

The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) announced the winners of its coveted consumer electronics awards on August 15.

Major electronics manufacturers such as Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Samsung, Philips and LG took home the majority of the awards, while lesser known brands also managed to win with products that offered unique functions, advanced technology and iconic designs.

Luxury audio maker Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) won the award for the best European High-End Loudspeaker; consumer audio maker Audison picked up the award for the best European In-Car Speaker System; Apple's iPad scooped the European Tablet award; the best European Smartphone award was given to Samsung's Galaxy S GT-19000; LG's GD510 mobile took home the award for the best European Green Mobile Phone; and Canon's EOS 550D and LEGRIA HF M31 cameras won the awards for the best European Camera and the best European Family Camcorder respectively.

Representatives from more than 50 European-based multimedia magazines convened in June to rigorously test, review and select outstanding consumer electronics products in the categories of Audio & Home Theatre, In-Car Electronics, Photo, Video, Mobile Devices and Green for the 2010-2011 EISA awards.

Only products that have been available for sale in the European market between October 1, 2009 and October 1, 2010 are eligible for the awards.

The official awards ceremony will be held on September 3 during IFA, a consumer electronics fair that takes place in Berlin, Germany, September 3-8.
