'Fable' heads list of upcoming Windows Phone 7 games
Friday 07 January 2011
The gaming potential of Windows Phone 7 handsets was underlined by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer during the company's CES 2011 opening keynote, with a spin-off of the
Fable adventure series leading the line.
The mobile version is actually a mini-golf game, but Microsoft Game Studios are hoping that Fable Coin Golf's integration with Fable III will help entice existing players to try out the mobile tech, even though Coin Golf's release date is yet to be confirmed.
There were also reveals regarding WP7 versions of Fruit Ninja, Pocket God, Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles HD, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 and board game conversion Zombies!!! Mobile Edition along with Pac-Man and the retro-themed Game Room service.
The initiative is part of Microsoft's desire to wrestle control of mobile gaming back from Apple's iOS devices and the increasingly popular Android platform.
At the same time, it enables them to establish a presence in a sector traditionally contested by Nintendo, whose 3DS launches during February and March, and Sony, which is working on a successor to the PSP as well as a PlayStation-enhanced mobile phone platform.
