The comic book character and fighting game cross-over Marvel vs Capcom 3 is set for some "fantastic news" at San Diego Comic-Con from the game's producer, according to the conference's schedule.

That could mean extra characters for the February 2011 360 and PS3 release, or perhaps even a souped-up Super edition, in the tradition of Super Street Fighter IV.

MvC3's producer and director, Ryota Niitsuma, has worked for gaming giant Capcom on both Street Fighter IV and the Wii's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, so it could be that he's taking a leaf out of the Street Fighter series's playbook.

Street Fighter IV itself was released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in February 2009, with the cheaper Super Street Fighter IV following in April 2010, and the console version of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition in June 2011.

The latest Mortal Kombat has adopted a different approach to cultivating fan loyalty, offering a Season Pass to Xbox 360 players which includes all present and future downloadable content.
