What’s so ‘inadequate, pimpled and single’ about this lot?

Cyberspace is currently riddled with anguish over remarks broadcaster Andrew Marr made about bloggers, calling them "socially inadequate, pimpled, single, slightly seedy, bald, cauliflower-nosed young men sitting in their mother's basements."

The BBC’s former political editor called citizen journalism the “rantings of very drunk people late at night. It is fantastic at times but it is not going to replace journalism."

Predictably, Marr’s name has been muddied by commentators on Twitter and forums across the internet ever since he made the remarks during a talk at the Cheltenham Literary Festival earlier this week.

Ever anxious to enter the debate, The Independent Online – which has a dedicated blogging area – has come up with ten examples of blogs which we think defy Marr’s assessment of drunken rantings, and offer up a unique or interesting perspective which adds to modern day journalism rather than takes from it.

We’ve deliberately avoided some of the more mainstream offerings, like Perez Hilton, Guido Fawkes and the Hufffington Post, seeking not to repeat a statistically-based top ten. This is a more esoteric list of the blogs which amuse or intrigue those of us here.
