Four faces of Spider-Man in game's launch trailer
Monday 06 September 2010
Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions game features four variants on the comic book webslinger, across four different environments and with four distinct visual styles, as evidenced in the launch trailer put out ahead of the multi-format release on September 7 (September 10 in Europe).
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is for the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as in a more portable (though slightly reduced) form for the Nintendo DS. Starring the Ultimate, Noir, 2099 and most familiar Amazing Spider-Man, each character has slightly different abilities that emphasise the use of speed, agility, stealth or power.
After getting their hands on preview builds, games websites have come out largely in favor - remember that while last year's award winning Batman: Arkham Asylum broke the template regarding just how good a comic book game could be, general caution toward them remains after years of generic dross.
"My hopes are riding pretty high", wrote 1UP's Mike Nelson in July. IGN's Greg Miller was "excited for it - and that's after being a bit 'meh'", while Eurogamer's Christian Donlan came away from a more recent August hands-on describing it as a "straightforward adventure", though nevertheless "likely to be a fairly enjoyable [game]".
The launch trailer for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions can be seen at Youtube.com/user/Marvel, where further videos show off the Wii and DS versions. Marvel's comic book rival DC have DC Universe Online for PC and PS3 due on November 2. The Arkham Asylum sequel, Batman: Arkham City for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be out in the second half of 2011.
