Capcom have announced that their upcoming RPG Dragon's Dogma will tackly its lack of online multiplayer in a uniquely novel manner, namely by allowing players to pool their resources against an immensely powerful dragon and go to asynchronous battle against it.

The Ur-Dragon, which apparently appears in the Everfall beneath Gran Soren, is a challenge that awaits players and their parties of AI-driven Pawns and which anyone from around the world can compete in collectively online. The effect of each party’s attacks will be combined, but the dragon’s immense strength means it will take multiple encounters before the Ur-Dragon finally falls.

If you happen to unleash the fatal blow you receive the maximum reward, but all competing players will obtain both common and rare items as damage is inflicted on the beast. All slayers of the Ur-Dragon will have their names and play times recorded in a hall of fame for others to view and aim to beat.

Players without an online connection can take on the Ur-Dragon alone, but the rewards will be different to those received online.
