Super Smash Bros will be out this summer on the 3DS

Fans of Nintendo’s legendary brawling series Super Smash Bros have gone into a frenzy over the news that two Pokemon characters will be joining the franchise in its next outing.

Charizard and Greninja will be part of an expanded roster of favourite Nintendo characters when the game arrives on the 3DS hand-held this summer and for the Wii U, thought to be arriving at the end of the year.

Charizard will be familiar to anyone who played the original generation of Pokemon titles, although Greninja only appeared from Pokemon X/Y onwards, using Water and Dark-type ninja attacks.

The pair will be joining returning characters including Fox McCloud, Bowser, Mario, Mega Man, Pikachu, Sonic, Princess Zelda and Zero Suit Samus. The full-list can be found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The news was announced as part of Nintendo’s most recent Nintendo Direct presentation, which also revealed that the 3DS version will still manage to run at 60 frames per second (dropping down to 30 for assists) – an impressive feat for a hand-held device.

Both games will also include two online multiplayer modes aimed at amatuers and pro players respsetively. The For Fun mode will include items and random stages while the For Flory mode will have no items and take place only on the flat Final Destination stage.

It’s only in the latter game mode that wins and losses will be recorded when playing against strangers – it’ll be here that wannabe Smash Bros champs will have to prove themselves.
