'Gears of War 3' joins season pass trend
Tuesday 30 August 2011
Gears of War 3 will offer a Season Pass that includes the game's first four add-on packs at a 33% saving.
The price range for Gears of War 3's downloadable content hasn't yet been revealed but the Season Pass costs 2,400 Microsoft Points ($30, €28, £27).
That means the quartet would weigh in at 3,600 points sold separately, or around $45, €43, or £30, depending on how those points are purchased.
Based on that, one pack costing 1,200 points and three at 800 wouldn't be unreasonable to expect. Bundled in the Season Pass they're worth about 790 and 530 points respectively.
For those who are sure to nab the lot, it's certainly cheaper than the equivalent for Call of Duty: Black Ops. The blockbuster pegged each of its four multiplayer map expansions at 1,200 points apiece ($15, €14, £10) - hence the introduction of a premium membership tier with added benefits for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
LA Noire and Mortal Kombat also invited fans to purchase future game expansions ahead of time with their own versions of the season pass.
EA Sports are opting for three-day early access and a reduction on further spending as part of their own equivalent package.
