Splicing together a BBC voiceover with a pulsating genre-blending synth track, a fan-made trailer for Gran Turismo 5 is turning heads across the net and has been tipped as an alternative launch trailer for the game itself.

David Hunter, also known as KopparbergDave, uploaded his latest video on Sunday, November 14, a few hours before setting off on a ten-day holiday.

Two days later and it was top rated, top favorited, most discussed and most viewed in the UK's Autos & Vehicles category.

It was also placing in the category's top ten most viewed in Argentina, Germany, Canada, and France, and climbing in the global and all-category charts to boot.

The trailer intercuts footage from previous official Gran Turismo 5 videos, showing off the luxury sports cars and locations promised by the upcoming video game.

"You have to admire this guy's skill to beat every form of [ Gran Turismo 5] PR we've seen," wrote TheSixthAxis.com. "If only Sony would use the following video as their launch trailer."

Ferrari, Mercedes, Subaru, Nissan, Chevrolet, and the Red Bull X1 concept are among the marques shown tearing around city, circuit, and countryside locations, during both night and day, through sun, snow, and rain.

Over five years in development, the PlayStation 3 exclusive had been expected towards the end of 2009 and delayed twice during 2010 before its imminent international release on November 24.

In the meantime, Forza Motorsport 3 has established itself as the Xbox 360's premier motor racing title, with a fourth entry anticipated for 2011, while Codemasters' multiplatform DiRT series wowed WRC fans and F1 2010 provided a much needed fix for Formula 1 aficionados.
