The latest trailer for Lord of the Rings: War in the North offers a glimpse of gameplay as three heroes plough through orcs and trolls upon a mountainous ridge.

The fellowship are investigating rumors of a huge orc army amassing in the region, but can't avoid armed conflict on the way through.

Designer Sean Stahl talks up the benefits of teamwork, where the the elf's ranged attacks can pin down enemies from a distance, enabling the human and dwarf to get up close and personal.

War in the North is expected to arrive on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC later this year, though it now faces considerable competition from similar titles.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge (May 31), Dungeon Siege III (June 21) and Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale (May-June) have their own takes on hack and slash co-operative multiplayer.
