Xbox One: Faulty console owners offered free game by Microsoft
A malfunctioning disc drive is the main concern among some gamers
Tuesday 26 November 2013
A free downloadable game is set to be offered to all owners of faulty Xbox Ones, Microsoft has said in a statement.
After the console’s release on November 22, a number of videos have emerged on YouTube which appear to show a faulty disc drive.
In most of the videos, when a disc is inserted, the Xbox One makes a load clicking and crunching noise before rejecting the disc (some consoles don’t even accept the disc in the first place).
Microsoft was well aware of the reports, and said that the issue was only affecting “a very small number of Xbox One customers.”
Now, to pacify disgruntled owners, Microsoft is set to offer a free downloadable game for all those looking to replace their malfunctioning consoles.
In a statement, the American firm said: “While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game. We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios.”
Specifically, Microsoft is reported to be offering Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, Zoo Tycoon and Forza Motorsport 5.
Despite the problems, the Xbox One still hit one million sales within 24 hours of release, matching its rival in the next-gen console market, the PlayStation 4, which wasn’t without its own launch problems.
