'Modern Warfare 3' debut trailer confirms November 8 launch
Tuesday 24 May 2011
Clips from inner-city battles in New York, London, Paris and Berlin punctuate
Modern Warfare 3's first full trailer, which is to launch on November 8.
Featured locations include New York's Lower Manhattan and the Stock Exchange building, the London Underground and Houses of Parliament, the Eiffel Tower and trendy Canal St Martin in Paris, and Berlin's imposing business district.
Weaponry seen in previous games are present - the M4A1, FAMAS and AK-47 assault rifles, MP5 and UMP45 sub-machine guns.
Cruise missiles are launched from submarines, A-10 Thunderbolts fly overhead, and gas masks are commonplace - all could cross over to multiplayer mode in some capacity.
There are also references to rival Battlefield series, which is to launch Battlefield 3 at the same time of year.
Two of Battlefield's distinguishing features have been the use of a broad range of vehicles, and destructible buildings.
Modern Warfare 3's trailer shows the use of cars, trucks, jeeps and tanks, as well as a collapsing skyscraper, though it's not yet clear how tightly scripted such events would be.
Both games have chosen New York and Paris among their locales, though much of Battlefield 3's marketing material has focused upon the Middle Eastern region.
