New apps help you hack your Facebook profile page
Tuesday 04 January 2011
Tired of those same old profile pictures and boring Facebook layouts? These applications will help you modify your Facebook profile and keep your friends envious of your skills.
French artist Alexandre Oudin is believed to be one of the first Facebook users to take advantage of Facebook's new profile page photo layout after it was launched in December.
Since then, Facebook users have come up with numerous Photoshop templates to help others modify their layouts. However, for the average Facebook user, making these templates work is time-consuming and overly tedious.
Drink company Schweppes has developed an application that helps Facebook users take advantage of the new profile design in a few easy steps.
"Many other creative minds have played around with their profiles. This inspired Schweppes to develop the Schweppes Profile App on Facebook, which helps anybody who doesn't have Photoshop skills and much time to get a great new profile as well," said Schweppes in a December 24 press release.
Once the app is installed, users simply upload a photo, resize and place the photo in the desired configuration, tag each part of the image with their name and click on "make this my profile picture."
The result is a (thankfully unbranded) profile picture that spans across the smaller photo tiles on your profile page.
Schweppes's app joins a growing list of Facebook profile page modification apps including FB Photo Magic, Profile Pane and Profile-Banner (links below).

As always, when you install an application on Facebook, you should check to make sure the permissions it asks for matches with the information the application actually needs to work.
