New HP printers can print from smartphones

US computer giant Hewlett-Packard is introducing new printers that can print directly from a smartphone or any Web-connected device.

The new home and business printers, which cost between 99 dollars and 299 dollars, each has a unique email address, allowing printing jobs to be sent to to the devices.

"If you can email it, you can print it," HP said in a statement.

"Our customers want an easy way to print their content anywhere, anytime," said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president of HP's Imaging and Printing Group.

"We're making that a reality today by giving people the power to print from any Web-connected device - smartphones, iPads, netbooks and more."

The Internet-connected printers also feature touchscreens that can access and print files from Google documents, photos or calendar items.

The first of the new printers will be available in North America this month with the remainder hitting the market in September.

The Palo Alto, California-based HP is the world's leading personal computer maker. It reported revenue last quarter of 30.8 billion dollars with the Imaging and Printing Group contributing 6.4 billion dollars.
