Fifa 16 trailer: Women's teams announced for first time (but there's no corruption scandal mode)
Trailer drops right in the middle of ongoing investigation into corruption allegations
EA Sports have dropped the first trailer for Fifa 16, right in the middle of one of the highest-profile scandals ever to hit international football.
The trailer mostly shows off the fact that women’s teams will appear in the game for the first time. The video is titled “Women's National Teams are IN THE GAME” on YouTube — a reference to the developer’s tagline, which claims that “if it’s in the game, it’s in the game”.
Fifa 16 is set to be released in September, on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
But the promotional materials make no reference to the ongoing scandal, which came to public attention yesterday when Swiss authorities raided a luxury hotel and arrested many of Fifa’s top executives.
Social media users had already been mocking the events by drawing up satirical versions of the Fifa covers to mock the scandal.
As with male players, many of the most famous women players — including England's Steph Houghton — have had their heads scans so that the game can feature their authentic likenesses.
