Google car 'runs over dog' in the name of comprehensive Street View

Still from Chilean Street View appear to show dog motionless in road

On a mission as ambitious as photographing every road in the world at two metre intervals, the chances are you're likely going to encounter some weird, wonderful and occasionally horrifying sights along the way.

The latest in a long list of 'weird stuff on Google Street View' sees the company itself at the centre of the controversy however, one of its cars having apparently run over a small dog in Chile.

The Street View for Meza Bell 2815-2861in the Quinta Normal, Región Metropolitana appears to show a pretty sad sight:

*Warning: Images below don't confirm anything bad happened to the dog, but might be upsetting all the same.*

The car heads down Meza Bell toward an intersection with Lazo de la Vega. Oh look a cute little dog!

Wait, where has it gone? That blur looks ominous…

As the car moves away, it appears to lay motionloess.

And further away…still no movement.

Of course, it's possible the dog escaped being run over and was merely laying down or rolling over, with a final zoomed image image showing it lying in the opposite direction…

Google has yet to respond on the matter, but fingers crossed it's okay, as was the case with the Google Street View donkey that caused so much outrage in 2013.
