It's Halloween and Google has marked the occasion with a spooky witch-themed Doodle to get us in the mood.

The interactive Doodle starts off with a green-faced witch, complete with a menacing grin, a large hooked nose and moving eyes, flicking through an oversized witchcraft book entitled 'Google'.

When users click the glowing play button a gong sounds and the witch starts stirring a cauldron containing a bubbling green brew. Spooky sound effects complete the haunted scene.

The user is then invited to add ingredients to her green concoction and can choose from a bone, a skull, an apple or a bottle of blue potion.

Throwing in these ingredients results in the witch disappearing in a large puff of smoke. The user is then taken to a selection of interactive scenes, ranging from whack-a-mole with hands poking up through the ground, to animated spiders dangling from threads.

Halloween or 'All Hallows Eve' is celebrated in countries across the world on 31 October. The festival is thought to have been influenced by All Saints' Day marked on 1 November and All Souls Day falling on 2 November.
