With Christmas party season in full swing, it is perhaps sobering to note that the average UK adult admits to being drunk in three-quarters of their Facebook photos.

On average, participants in a survey published yesterday, said that 76 per cent of photos posted of them on the social networking site were taken while they were under the influence of alcohol.

More than half said they had pictures that they would not want work colleagues to see; 8 per cent admitted to appearing in pictures which could get them into "serious trouble" in the office.

Few users had activated privacy settings. A quarter of participants admitted that "anyone" could view their photos online, according to the survey by MyMemory.com.
