Spotify has updated its desktop app to show lyrics from currently playing songs.

The feature, powered by lyric catalogue Musixmatch, also allows users to search and browse through lyrics.

Users can use the service by clicking the “Lyrics” button, next to the play bar. The lyrics show in real time with the songs, allowing users to see the lyrics as they’re sung.

The new service will roll out for desktop from today and “over the coming weeks”, the company said.

Spotify has also released new social features, allowing listeners to use the new “Friend Feed” to see what friends are listening to on the service. Friends’ listening habits will also be used to calculate daily viral charts, showing the most played tracks by friends.

Musixmatch is one many apps integrated into Spotify, which also includes other music services like Songkick and Topspin.

The company’s website allows users to search through popular lyrics, which they can also edit and leave annotations in a similar way to Genius. Songs are played on the site through YouTube, showing lyrics in sync as they’re sung.
