Sony Ericsson has released two new phones under the banner of its GreenHeart portfolio - a category reserved for eco-friendly products designed by the electronics company.
The Sony Ericsson Elm and Hazel phones were released on December 14 along with the first GreenHeart accessory - the VH700 Bluetooth Noise Shield Handsfree kit.
Both the phones and the Handsfree kit have been crafted from Recycled plastics. The products are free from any hazardous chemicals, have a low power consumption charger and save paper and bulky packaging by swapping paper manuals for digital versions.
"The Sony Ericsson Elm and the Sony Ericsson Hazel phones offer consumers a green choice without compromising on features or fun. These mobile phones also give consumers a better voice quality experience, with Noise Shield, Clear Voice and Intelligent Volume Adaptation. Both phones offer an easy-to-use social networking experience featuring the Widget Manager application, which allows users access to their social networking page via the stand-by screen and quickly switch between different social networks." said Fortuné Alexander, global marketing director at Sony Ericsson.
Sony Ericsson has also announced it will strive to make its entire range of accessories treehugger-friendly, with 100 percent GreenHeart compliance by 2011.
The Sony Ericsson Hazel phone will start shipping in the first quarter of 2010. The Elm and the VH700 Handsfree kit will be available from Q2 2010. According to a Sony Ericsson PR representative the phones are expected to be in the "mid tier price range."
