The best of the UK's video game journalists met on the evening of Thursday 15th October at the Games Media Awards, to celebrate the most entertaining, informative, and industrious writers and publications. The GMAs are excellent guides for those interested in finding out more about video games, especially in the upcoming busy retail period at the end of the year.

Two winners were notable for having received an award for the third year in a row. Eurogamer.net was a familiar name receiving the Best Website award, and The Guardian clinched the prize for Games Coverage In A National Newspaper once again.

However, it was the outstanding Pat Garrett of VG247.com who reigned supreme. He walked away jubilant with a haul of three awards - Best Games Blog, Best Specialist Writer (Online), and finally, as a result of his sterling work serving both news media and consumers, the award for Games Media Legend. His site VG247.com started not so long ago in 2008 and thanks to his hard work and incisive commentary has quickly established itself as a round-the-clock source of video game news, delivered in an amusing and absorbing style.

Other winners honored on the night included Edge Magazine for Best Games Magazine, freelancer Jon Blyth for Best Specialist Writer (Print), men's lifestyle freesheet Shortlist for Best Games Coverage in a Mainstream Magazine, and downloadable audio show One Life Left won Best Games Broadcast. Dan Slingsby won Best Regional Games Columnist for his syndicated column Games Addict, and youngster Mike Channell of Official Xbox Magazine was congratulated for his work by means of the Rising Star award.
