Ninjago toy range set for 'Lego Universe' and DS game
Thursday 13 January 2011
Lego have announced plans to release their new range of Spinjitzu ninjas - the Ninjago - not only as toys but as characters within PC and Mac game
Lego Universe, and stars of the show in a new Nintendo DS title.
The mini figures sit atop spinners, with sets of trading cards used to steer the course of battle, before hurtling into one another.
The Ninjago can be seen as Lego's take on the popular Bakugan Battle Brawlers spinning toys.
Lego Universe, a subscription-based online game launched in October 2010, already features ninjas along with pirates and space pilots, and is to receive a new Ninjago-themed adventure zone called Crux Prime. That's due for deployment in "a few weeks," hinting at February 2011 or just before.
Lego Ninjago: The Video Game is scheduled for a Nintendo DS launch sometime this spring (between March and May 2011). It's a sequel to the original Lego Battles game on DS, a strategy title with both single and multiplayer modes.
While the Ninjago compete with Bakugan, Lego Universe has the established Moshi Monsters and Club Penguin social sites to contend with. Club Penguin and Bakugan have set up camp on Nintendo's handheld, which also accommodates other top-down strategy games such as Advance Wars and Ninjatown.
