'Resistance 3' supported by launch trailers, reviews
Wednesday 07 September 2011
Resistance 3, fourth in Sony PlayStation's series about a mid-20th century alien invasion, celebrates its September launch with a clutch of videos.
The launch trailer builds on a collection of teasers and a TV spot, while a set of multilingual interviews explores life after the Chimeran invasion as supposed survivors tell their tales.
PlayStation 3 game Resistance 3 launches on September 6 in North America, with worldwide debuts following later in the week.
Reviews have been mostly positive, with special praise for its action sequences and considered tone - Joystiq (4.5/5) calls it "heir apparent to the sci-fi shooter throne," 1Up (B+) "one of the most well-made shooters on the market," IGN (9/10) "a surprisingly emotional cinematic roller-coaster."
However, the trailers' heavy emphasis on narrative content doesn't necessarily carry over to the game.
Giant Bomb identifies the conflict between story details and set-pieces as "the same, face-palming mistake" of Resistance 2, though not enough to prevent anything less than a 4/5 rating. For IncGamers, an awkward middle third "lets the whole game down," resulting in a 7/10 mark.
