RIM launches new socially-minded BlackBerry Curve smartphones with NFC
Tuesday 23 August 2011
BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) has unveiled the next generation of its popular (read lower-end) BlackBerry Curve smartphones - its most social series of smartphones ever.
The handsets come in three different models (the 9350, 9360 and 9370) and run the latest version of RIM's BlackBerry operating system, BlackBerry 7 OS.
"Our intention was to craft the most stylish BlackBerry Curve smartphones yet, while still maintaining that classic ‘just right’ Curve feel," said BlackBerry Product managers Soniya and Pankaj in an August 23 post on the company’s blog.
RIM is proud to promote the Curve series' new social functions which include updated Twitter and Facebook for BlackBerry apps and a brand new version of the company's Social Feeds application.
The new Social Feeds app posts Facebook, Twitter and BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) updates into one convenient location and has Universal Search integration, and item flagging for viewing at a later date.
The updated Curve series is also the second series of BlackBerry phones to come equipped with NFC (Near Field Communications) technology (the recently unveiled BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 were the first).
Additional features include a 2.44" HVGA+ (480×360) display, backlit QWERTY keyboard, 5MP camera with flash, WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, and an 800MHz processor.
In other smartphone news, HTC is expected to hold a September 1 event to unveil its Windows Phone Mango devices and HP has reportedly canceled the launch of its Pre 3 WebOS smartphone in the US but will still launch the unlocked device for $75 in France and the UK.
The BlackBerry Curve 9350, 9360 and 9370 smartphones will be available in Canada later this month and in selected markets around the globe in September.
Pricing will be announced at a later date on http://ca.blackberry.com/smartphones/blackberrycurve.jsp.
