RIM to launch two additional PlayBook tablets
Tuesday 15 February 2011
BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) announced it will launch two additional PlayBook tablets in the second half of 2011 at Mobile World Congress on February 14.
"We are now building on the BlackBerry PlayBook's many advantages with support for additional 4G networks that will allow enhanced business opportunities for carriers and developers and unparalleled mobile experiences for users," said Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO at Research In Motion.
The two new tablets provide support for LTE and HSPA+ data networks (in addition to WiFi) and add to the company's already announced PlayBook lineup which consists of a WiFi-only tablet and a WiFi plus WiMax configuration.
Tablets have featured heavily in this year's Mobile World Congress.
HTC unveiled a 7" inch Android tablet called the Flyer, LG showed off its tablet with a built-in 3D camera, the Optimus Pad, and Samsung announced it was launching a larger Galaxy Tab.
