SITEX goes green with eco-technology for the future

SITEX, Singapore's longest-running IT event, is encouraging technology manufacturers and consumers to embrace eco-technology during this year's show.

Green IT will feature prominently at the 2010 edition of the consumer IT and electronics exhibition as many of the show's more than 500 information communication and consumer electronic product manufacturers aspire to "green up" their image.

Eco-technology has become a major trend in 2010, featuring at this year's major international technology events such as the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), CeBIT, Hong Kong Electronics Fair (HKTDC) and COMPUTEX Taipei.

To kick-start conversations about environmentally friendly technologies, increase green awareness among tech consumers and to showcase some of the innovative technologies already available in this area, SITEX has created a brand new event segment called Green IT.

"Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the need to protect and sustain the environment and importantly are making purchases that reflect their environmentally conscious lifestyles," said Eugene Liew, country manager, Home & Small-Medium Business, Lenovo Singapore, one of the exhibitors at this year's SITEX.

"Technology can be one of the biggest enablers of an environmentally friendly lifestyle with a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the adoption of telecommuting, virtual meetings and energy management practices."

SITEX has become an institution for consumers interested in new technology. Since 1988, visitors have come to the event to purchase electronic goods at producer direct prices and to talk one on one with the companies developing the latest technological innovations.

More than 859,000 local and international visitors came through the doors in 2009.

Additional green incentives at this year's event include the implementation of designated recycling bins for unwanted brochures, flyers and electronic items, and a space (run by Cash Converters) where consumers can exchange electronic goods such as computers, PDAs, mobile phones, digital cameras and TVs they no longer need for cash.

SITEX runs from November 25 to 28 at the Singapore Expo in Singapore.
