Tech agenda: Webby Awards, IBM turns 100

On June 13 the Webby Awards will highlight the best of the web at its New York awards ceremony, and IBM will celebrate 100 years of innovation on June 16.

The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences will be handing out Webby Awards to websites, interactive advertisers, app designers, online film and video creators, and mobile websites that excel in the creation and delivery of content web-based content, and media during the awards ceremony on June 13. Entries come from more than 60 countries with over 750 million media impressions. This year the Awards ceremony will be streamed live on the web via Facebook and YouTube.

3D & Virtual Reality Expo

Entertainment and information in three dimensions is all the rage in the electronics industry, so expect a big turnout at the 3D & Virtual Reality Expo, being held at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center. The show is the largest of its kind in Japan and will demonstrate the latest developments in 3D technology and super high-definition image technology.

CEDIA Expo is the top expo for the residential custom installation industry. It showcases the latest innovations in home cinema, audio-video solutions, lighting control, multi-room audio, home-networking and other essential technologies for custom home installations. In 2011 CEDIA will showcase stereoscopic technology in its new 3D Feature Zone and will offer manufacturer and distributor hosted workshops throughout the event's duration. Around 7,500 industry professionals visit the event each year. The Asia-Pacific edition of the expo takes place in May while the US edition will be held from September 7-10 in Indianapolis, IN.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a non-profit organization that aims to spread ideas in the interests of global knowledge and inspiration. The annual TED Global conference is an event that showcases ideas and projects from the most creative minds in the world. Speakers at TED Global will explore the theme of "The Stuff Of Life," uncovering the vivid stream of good news, ideas, science, technology, art, and new ways of thinking. TED only invites a limited number of participants to its events, but the short, inspirational talks from the event are broadcast on the internet for free and are as far-reaching as many of the major product announcements made at tech fairs such as CES and CeBIT.
