The best games of 2010, according to Metacritic's hive mind
Wednesday 07 July 2010
Review comparison site Metacritic have released their report on the best new games released in 2010 so far.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii leads the way (average score: 98%), with the Xbox 360's version of
Mass Effect 2 in second place (96%), and
Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in joint third (95%).
For games available on more than one plaform, Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption both got an average score of 95 out of 100. Super Street Fighter IV, Bayonetta, and BioShock 2 were the next best performing titles.
Metacritic averages out review scores collected from magazines, newspapers and websites to produce an overall Metascore rating.
The site also produced top five lists showing the best games exclusive to each platform as well as an overall summary of review scores for all compatible new titles.
Those top fives bring to the fore games that would otherwise be lost in a sea of multi-platform goodness.
Included are Alan Wake, Chime, and Snoopy Flying Ace on Xbox 360; Heavy Rain, Joe Danger, and Yakuza 3 on PS3; Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Sin & Punishment 2 on the Wii; VVVVVV and Napoleon: Total War on PC; Picross 3D and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey on DS; and Patchwork Heroes on the PSP.
