Thirty games vie for your vote in the IGF Audience Award
Tuesday 01 February 2011
All thirty finalists in the Independent Games Festival 2011,
Minecraft among them, are primed and ready to receive your votes before the digital ballot box closes on February 18.
Amnesia is known for its incredible production values and extremely well executed survival horror atmosphere, while Minecraft's blocky graphics didn't stop over 1 million punters paying up for the ever-evolving online construction kit.
Most of the nominees are coded for Windows PCs, Macs, or Linux systems, seven are fully fledged iPhone games ( Bit.Trip Beat, Colorblind, Halcyon, Helsing's Fire, Shot Shot Shot and Solipskier).
There are also those that can be found on the Wii Shop download channel ( Bit.Trip Beat, Bit.Trip Runner, Cave Story and Retro City Rampage), and a couple located on the Xbox 360's LIVE service ( BUTTON, Retro City Rampage).
In contrast to previous years, where each Audience Award nominee was already available as a final product or a demo download, roughly a third are not yet released. 2011's Audience Award includes all IGF finalists on the grounds that many titles, such as Hohokum, Miegakure and Nidhogg, have been popping up with regularity at public video game events around the world.
The Audience Award will be presented, along with other category accolades, at the IGF award ceremony on March 2 at the Game Developers Conference, San Francisco.
Five months later, at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, the PAX organisers will choose the PAX 10, their very own set of ten indie games given free exhibition space for the event's duration.
