Top 10 YouTube gaming videos of the week: Linkin Park soundtrack war game

Electronic Arts' decision to recruit US rap/rock band Linkin Park for October's
Medal of Honor game soundrack has propelled its trailer to the top of YouTube's gaming videos chart for the week ending Wednesday, August 4. A band member directed the trailer, a mix of live action footage and excerpts from the game, and on-screen action is set to the new single "The Catalyst."

Focusing on the involvement of US Army Rangers in the ongoing war in Afghanistan, EA says that the game has been developed with the help of its fictional characters' real-world counterparts in order to create an authentic experience.

In contrast to Six Days In Fallujah, a title boasting similar levels of realism which has struggled to generate interest from publishers, Medal of Honor was developed in-house by EA's studios in Los Angeles and Sweden, assured of considerable support with regards to both production and marketing.

Critical reception will be of particular interest, given the mixed reactions to controversial scenes in 2009's Modern Warfare 2, and recent opinion pieces from commentators such as games journalist Leigh Alexander and writer Michael Abbott about the place of war and violence in interactive entertainment.

The latest video from USC film student Freddie Wong's crew is a more lighthearted take on armed conflict, as a blissful afternoon doze is interrupted by thugs whose guns shoot flowers and petals (thanks to some nifty CGI).

Other videos capturing the public interest this week include a trailer teasing Halo: Reach's humans vs aliens storyline, and one for the creature collection of Pokemon Black & White, showing new graphics, environments and battle modes.
