Trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic shows multiplayer action
Tuesday 06 July 2010
BioWare have released a new trailer for their upcoming computer game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, showing some of online multiplayer's basic elements.
The game is set 3,500 years before the Star Wars films, as galactic civilization teeters on the brink of another conflict between the Republic and the Sith Empire.
Four player types are shown: a Galactic Republic Trooper, a smuggler, a Jedi knight, and a Consular. All have different skills and consequently focus on wielding heavy weaponry, taking pot-shots, using light sabers or healing other party members.
Though the game isn't due out until 2011, it was on display at Los Angeles' Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, and the trailer is the same video that was shown to the press during that event.
BioWare and LucasArts will be competing with established titles in the Massively Multiplayer Online genre such as World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online, Lord of the Rings Online, and newcomers such as DC Universe Online and Guild Wars 2.
