The first signs of growth may be starting to show in some sectors of the electronic equipment market but are consumer's pockets big enough to warrant buying the latest and greatest technology gizmos?

Signs of economic recovery are apparent in many sectors but the overall rate of growth is slow. Consumers are still watching where their money is going, especially with the holiday season rapidly approaching.

Electronics companies are wary of the situation and are eager to encourage consumers to spend money on their devices. Companies have already started price-wars (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and Apple all recently reduced their gaming console and device prices in the last couple of months) in the lead up to the Christmas season.

Market researcher NPD predicts that consumers will be spending their money on products that fall within the notebook and netbook category this holiday season. On October 13 NPD reported that the category has seen pronounced growth during the year and believes these buying patterns will continue during the Christmas rush.

Amazon's International version of the popular Kindle is due on October 19 in over 100 countries and is already a "most wanted" Christmas gift. On October 14 Ian Freed, Vice President Amazon Digital Services Amazon.com revealed that the Kindle is not only Amazon's number one selling product - it is also the most wished for gift in their product catalogue.

The 18 to 24 year old age bracket has indicated a strong desire to receive and give electronics gifts in 2009.

"This age group is clearly demonstrating that they feel electronics are no longer a luxury but are in fact a necessity," said Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst, The NPD Group, Inc in the October 13 report.

Value for money will be a big driver in the 2009 holiday retail season with consumers looking to find the right gift at the right price. Those looking for the best electronics Christmas deals should start planning their Christmas shopping in advance.

Using the internet to conduct thorough research before buying will give you a better idea about the electronics device(s) you want to purchase and how much money you should spend.
