Twitter index: the internet trials IPv6

Across the world, leading internet companies are running a large-scale, 24-hour trial of Internet Protocol version 6 ("IPv6") in a bid to encourage widespread adoption of the internet standard.

Twitterers are wishing the web (and their followers) a "Happy IPv6 Day," providing statistics on the trial and discussing webpage outages that have occurred as a result of the trial.

"Currently 87 of the Alexa top 1000 websites have one or more IPv6 addresses in the DNS! 11 times as many as yesterday," reports a microblogger.

The top term on Twitter, "#Super8Secret," is advertising the soon-to-be-released science fiction movie Super 8. The hashtags "#oldschooldays" and "#10confessions" follow in second and third places.

"#lebronhairlinethemesong," chant Twitterers making fun of American basketball player LeBron James's receding hairline. The term is accompanied by hair-themed songs.

"Jorge Semprún" is in fifth place as microbloggers pay tribute to the recently deceased Spanish writer and politician.

The name of Liverpool football player David "Ngog" is fifth in the chart while the name of fellow English footballer "Jordan Henderson" ranks in seventh place.

Ninth and tenth places in Twitter's most talked about topics are filled by American animated TV series " Family Guy" and the name of American rapper "Kanye West."

The top 10 most talked about topics on Twitter on June 8 at 7:30 AM GMT are:

  1. #Super8Secret (promoted)
