Video game releases for the week: 'Star Wars','Operation Flashpoint', 'Demon's Souls'

A selection of video games to be released during the week of October 5: A new Star Wars game, realistic combat simulator Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and cult PS3 hit Demon's Souls.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Republic Heroes (DS, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, X360, Wii)
Release date: October 6 (North America), October 9 (EU)
Republic Heroes is based on the popular Star Wars cartoons and set before the start of the second season which has just started airing in the US on the Cartoon Network. The game features many playable characters from the Star Wars universe and has 30 missions for solo play or multiplayer fun.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (PC, PS3, X360)
Release date: October 6 (US), October 8 (EU), October 9 (UK)
This long-awaited sequel aims to reproduce the intensity of combat simulation through the authentic reproduction of vehicles, weaponry, and tactics. Most interestingly, the amount of extraneous on-screen information is limited in order to encourage an extra level of realism, immersion, and co-operation.

NBA 2K10 (X360, PS2, PS3, PSP)
Release date: October 6
The 2k franchise of basketball games marks its tenth birthday with this updated and improved iteration. There is even a commemorative $99 Anniversary Edition for Xbox 360 and PS3 which comes in its own special storage locker containing not only the game but also a figurine and poster of Championship winner Kobe Bryant, an anniversary DVD, and exclusive online perks. The PC and Wii versions of the game follow later this month.

Cities XL (PC)
Release date: October 8 (EU, Oceania), October 9 (North America)
Parisian developer Monte Cristo follow up their debut game City Life with this much anticipated 3D city building simulation. In addition to a comprehensive single-player mode, Cities XL offers new levels of online integration with complementary web-based features to enhance co-operation and competition between players.
Price: $39.99 + online subscription

Demons Souls (PS3)
Release date: October 6 (North America)
This action-oriented tale of dragon-slaying knights gains a North American release due to the enormous overseas interest generated since its Japanese debut. The online element means that players can leave hints and warnings for each other in-game as they hunt mythical beasts together through epic ruins, mines, and valleys.

Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta (PS3)
Fallout 3: Point Lookout (PS3)

Release date: October 8
These two downloadable expansion packs for the multi-award winning Fallout 3 arrive on PS3 as they did on Xbox 360 and PC earlier this year. On those platforms Point Lookout gained praise for maintaining the humor and explorative feel of the main game, while Zeta has drawn plaudits for its graphic finesse.
