One way to stay up to date with new games is to keep an eye on the world's largest games events, and the press conferences at which big companies reveal more on their latest titles. Germany's Gamescom event, running until Sunday August 22, is one of them, and for those that didn't catch Electronic Arts' presentation on Tuesday, the company have swiftly uploaded the full session to their YouTube channel, ElectronicArtsDE.

The hour long session was broken down into managable chunks of 10 minutes or less, featuring well known franchise titles due out in the next few months such as The Sims, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Medal of Honor, and FIFA.

The Sims 3 is to be the first full-blown console version of the series (not counting the MySims spin-offs on Wii and DS), and was shown alongside The Sims Medieval.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was played on the Xbox 360's hands-free Kinect controller by James and Oliver Phelps - the Weasley twins in the upcoming movie - and EA will want it to give the Lego Harry Potter games a decent challenge.

More tidbits were forthcoming about Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massively multiplayer online game like World of Warcraft but set in the films' science-fiction universe, and FIFA 11 closed out the show.

Also in the mix was EA Sports Active 2, a home fitness game endorsed by David Beckham, and news about the PlayStation 3 versions of Dead Space 2, Medal of Honor, and Mass Effect 2.

Trying to wrestle some of the Gamescom limelight away from Kinect Joy Ride, Motorstorm: Apocalypse and Gran Turismo 5 was Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, now augmented with friend challenges and Facebook features.

Dead Space 2 got a run out, revealing the role of zero-gravity ship repairs in the tense thriller and, like fellow EA title Medal of Honor, comes with an added bonus for PlayStation 3 owners - the Wii's Dead Space: Extraction and legacy title Medal of Honor: Frontlines respectively.
