Weekly global technology agenda: CTIA Wireless, Electronic House Expo

During the week of March 22 CITA will celebrate its 25th anniversary in Las Vegas, USA. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to attend the event that covers the wireless and converged communications industries, wireless broadband, and mobile web computing. Apple iPad goes on sale

Apple announced that WiFi models of its latest invention - a touchscreen slate device called the iPad - will begin shipping in the US on April 3. 3G models will start shipping at the end of April. WiFi and 3G versions of the device are also expected to become available in Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain and Switzerland in late April, with iPads going on sale in additional countries later during the year. Prices range from $499 for the 16GB WiFi model up to $829 for the WiFi & 3G 64GB model. International pricing will be announced in April.

It is now the largest computer exhibition in Asia, second in the world only to CeBIT in Germany. Many large computing firms have research and development centers or production factories in Taiwan and they come to Computex Taipei to launch their new products. Almost 120,000 visitors attended Computex Taipei in 2009 to see products and services from over 1,700 exhibitors.
