Weekly tech agenda: Social Media Week, Travel Technology Europe

Hundreds of online and offline events will be taking place around the globe for the fourth edition of Social Media Week. The biannual event strikes up global conversations about emerging social and mobile media trends and takes a closer look at social media's role in society.
4th Social Media Week
New York, San Francisco, Rome, Paris, Toronto, Sao Paulo, London, Hong Kong, Istanbul
Nine cities across the world will simultaneously host conferences and events for the February 2011 edition of Social Media Week. The event is held biannually and aims to draw awareness to new social media technologies and promote the use of social media in corporate, public and non-profit sectors. Participants around the world can watch and take part in live broadcasts of each event and online conversations on the Social Media Week website. The fifth edition of Social Media Week will be held in September 2011.
Travel Technology Europe Conference
Big names from the online travel world are set to come together at this annual conference to discuss the rapidly-evolving relationship between travel and technology. Speakers from Amadeus, Yahoo and Google are all set to address the conference, the largest of its kind in Europe.
GSMA Mobile World Congress
GSMA Mobile World Congress is a four-day event dedicated to cutting-edge mobile technology. It is accompanied by a string of high-profile mobile device announcements from leading manufacturers and as such is the most hotly followed event in the mobile industry. A full program of conferences, keynotes and panel discussions runs alongside an exhibition of the hottest new products and concept designs from the top mobile companies in the field. Approximately 1,300 exhibitors and 50,000 industry members from 200 countries are expected in 2011.

The third International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine gathers experts in the burgeoning field of telemedicine, which includes software and devices, telemedicine equipment, eHealth telecommunication services, wireless data communications, data records, and information processing, among many other tracks. This year will also feature new trends in travel telemedicine, including monitoring of travelers' health and self-health care while on the go.

TED, an acronym for Technology Entertainment Design, brings together scientific pioneers, visionaries, musicians and provocateurs from around the world for its famous talks. Presentations feature tech demos, video and TEDUniversity sessions. The program extends into evening art exhibits, comedy and experiences. Since 1990, the gatherings have continued to grow, extending to a TEDGlobal in a different country annually. Since 2007, talks are shown online for free and have been viewed more than 290 million times.
Deutsche Messe AG
In 2010, 4,157 exhibitors from 68 countries and more than 330,000 visitors made their way to Hannover for CeBIT. In its heyday the expo managed to draw around 700,000 visitors but it has since shrunk in size. Nevertheless, with its 450,000-square-meter exhibition space CeBIT remains the world's largest digital IT and telecommunications event and eclipses the likes of COMPUTEX, CES and SITEX in exhibition size. In 2011, visitors will see the fair split into four platforms: CeBIT pro for professional and business ICT solutions; CeBIT gov for the public sector; CeBIT lab for innovative research and development and CeBIT life for the latest trends in consumer electronics.
8th Read an E-Book Week
The annual Read an E-Book Week was created to promote and share the advantages of reading electronically. During this week, visitors are invited to browse the event website, where dozens of publishers, authors, and booksellers offer free titles for a limited time.

The 25th annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference & Festival gathers an estimated 100,000 members of the international music, film, and interactive media industries in Austin, Texas, for a week-long convergence of ideas and talent. For five days during the festival, the "brightest minds in emerging technology" come to showcase digital works, innovative ideas and new products under the banner of SXSW Interactive.
26th CTIA Wireless 2011

CTIA will welcome more than 1,000 exhibitors and more than 40,000 spectators in 2011. The show covers wireless and converged communications, wireless broadband, mobile web computing and data industries, and in 2011 the focus is on "Mobile Life." Companies will demo the latest in enterprise solutions, energy-saving products, and emerging mobile entertainment technology. While Mobile World Congress puts the emphasis on consumer devices, CTIA is all about the technologies that power them including Location Based Services (LBS), Smart Energy, Wireless Health, Intelligent Transportation, Cloud Computing and Mobile Money.
