Winklevoss twins take a dig at Zuckerberg in nut advert: viral video spotlight
Tuesday 13 September 2011
Having failed to successfully sue Mark Zuckerberg, the Winklevoss twins appear to have decided to get back at the Facebook founder via a commercial for pistachio nuts.
The Winklevoss twins are famous in the world of social media for repeatedly trying, and failing, to sue Mark Zuckerberg - claiming that he stole their idea for (currently inactive) social networking site ConnectU to create Facebook.
Zuckerberg has denied these claims, and the twins announced in June 2011 that they would not be taking their case to the US Supreme Court after it was thrown out of the appellate court level.
Now it seems the twins have tired of the legal approach and are instead trying to get back at Zuckerberg through pistachio nut adverts.
The advert, created for Wonderful Pistachios, shows the twins at a table with a bowl of nuts; when one of them opens the nut in an unusual way, the other twin says, "hey that's a good idea cracking like that - it could be huge," to which the first twin replies, "think someone will steal it?" before both twins turn to the camera asking, in an apparent dig at Zuckerberg, "who would do that?"
According to YouTube the video was uploaded on September 9, however it only began to attract attention on September 13 when it was featured in numerous blogs and online newspapers including The Guardian, The Huffington Post, The Enquirer, Time and Gawker.
