For equestrian nuts, the Olympia International Showjumping Championships is the most popular and prestigious event of its kind, with appearances by stars from the sport and some top-class action. Glasgow's Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre features, a Christmas and New Year Carnival. Really an indoor fair (but in fact the largest in Europe), it includes stalls, games and rides for both adults and kids. It opens at 1.45pm, and admission is pounds 1 (under 5s get in free), although the rides cost extra. (0141-248 9999)

3pm

Ice freaks will love the music and grace of Ice Fantasia at the Dimensions Centre in Stoke. Classical tunes accompany a group of top professional skaters as they slip, skid and slide through a series of fairy tales. Matinee performance at 2.30pm, admission pounds 8-pounds 10, concessions available

4pm

Christmas comes early at the Barbican Centre, London with two musical events to celebrate the Yuletide season: Glorious Christmas at 3.30pm, an orchestral journey through Christmas; and a typically festive Carol Concert at 7.30pm.
