Doctors and health officials were on a mission today to find a way to safely move a 70-stone man more than 150 miles.

Paul Mason, who is reportedly the world's heaviest man, needs to travel from his home in Ipswich, Suffolk, to a hospital in Chichester, West Sussex, for "life-saving" specialist treatment, it was revealed.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Primary Care Trust said the man was classed as "super-obese" and a number of travel options were being considered - including an airlift.

She said he would probably be taken by road in a specialist ambulance in the next few weeks - although a final decision had not yet been taken.

According to reports, an RAF Chinook was among the options to move the man - named as 48-year-old Mr Mason.

His weight went down to 45 stone in 2007 but he has since put on another 25 stone, according to reports.
