when a pet dies PEOPLE grieving over a pet can call a telephone helpline set up by the Society for Companion Animal Studies. A network of volunteers offers counselling to those whose pet has died, gone missing or had to be given up. The service is on 0891 615285; callers are given the name and telephone number of their nearest befriender.
