Health Update: Lost IUD found
A CONTRACEPTIVE coil has been found in situ more than 25 years after it was fitted - to the surprise of the woman concerned, according to a report in the British Journal of Family Planning. A family planning doctor in Plymouth says that on scanning the patient for fibroids, she observed a mysterious shadow in the womb. The woman had an old type of IUD, a Birnberg Bow, fitted 27 years ago. The woman became pregnant in spite of the device, the presence of which was revealed by the X-ray.
