Ugly eating habits from beauty

American starlet Megan Fox, who is best known for making lists like "Sexiest Woman Alive," has a sad message to young girls around the world, saying she would starve rather than cook.

At a time when fighting obesity is paramount, Fox, cover girl for Allure magazine's June edition, says "I'll starve to death before I'll cook for myself. I think I could survive a week without eating."

Seems Fox didn't get the memo that there is a "war on obesity" led by US First Lady Michelle Obama and renowned celebrity chef Jamie Oliver who is hard at work getting American and British youth into cooking and making healthy meal choices.

Mehmet Oz, MD, professor of cardiac surgery at Columbia University, founder of the complementary medicine program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, acclaimed author and health advisor, who has appeared on Oprah Winfrey's show and hosts his own health related TV program The Dr.Oz Show, tweeted on May 18, "TIP: Limit weekly restaurant meals to 1 or 2. It's easier to keep track of your healthy eating if U know what goes into making your meals."

However Fox who would rather starve than serve up a yummy healthy meal might not disagree with Oz about frequenting dining establishments as she is an admitted germaphobe and said eating with silverware in a restaurant is "putting my mouth where a million other mouths have been, just knowing all the bacteria that you carry in your mouth? Ucch!"

Needless to say the Megan Fox cookbook won't be hitting shelves any time soon and it would be best if your children learned not to idolize this celebrity approach to nutrition.

The best influence and notably most impactful is the family's approach to meals. Involving children in all of the stages ranging from growing an herb garden, to shopping for foods, preparing meals, setting the table, enjoying the meal and cleaning up builds long-term sustainable healthy habits.

For weekly meal ideas stay current with food blogs and sites like YumSugar, Epicurious, SeriousEater and Saveur.

To read the whole interview with Megan Fox look for the June print edition of Allure as early as May 25. http://www.allure.com/magazine/2010/06/megan_fox#slide=1
