International CITA Wireless, organizer of the CTIA Wireless show, has declared March 23 "Wireless Health Day."
Wireless Health Day will take place during the CTIA Wireless show and will include a variety of activities highlighting the role wireless technologies can play in improving the health of people around the world.
"Wireless health offers a variety of benefits for patients and caregivers to improve medical treatment while simultaneously reducing costs," explained Robert Mesirow, CTIA vice president and show director.
Wireless health technologies and innovations in the field of "mHealth" (mobile health) from companies such as BodyMedia, Continua, Diversinet, Doro, Keynetik, LifeComm, Optumhealth, Preventice, Telcare and the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance will be on display throughout the duration of the show in CTIA's Wireless Health Pavilion.
"Over the last three years, mHealth has become a prominent fixture at CTIA events, and this spring CTIA is convening some of the world's mHealth leaders to share what's next for this developing industry," said Mesirow.
In addition to the products and services on display in the Wireless Health Pavilion, CITA will also host a half-day conference titled "Moving Wireless Health Forward." The conference covers topics such as the consumers' role in shaping new healthcare models, privacy and security issues associated with mHealth and community-based wireless health initiatives.
Ericsson's global president & CEO Hans Vestberg and Patrick Soon-Shiong, M.D., chairman & CEO of the Institute for Advanced Health will also present a keynote on the "Networked Society" detailing how connectivity is transforming healthcare.
According to a recent study by mobile research company research2guidance, more than 500 million people will use healthcare apps on their smartphone in 2015.
mHealth will be just one of the wireless solutions on show during CTIA in 2011. The more than 1,000 exhibitors will also demo the latest in enterprise solutions, energy-saving products, and emerging mobile entertainment technology.
The 26th CTIA Wireless runs from March 22 to 24 at the Orange County Convention Center in
Orlando, FL, USA.
