On 14 September 1993, the first steps towards peace between Israel and the Arab nations was brokered by three American presidents.
Jimmy Carter, George Bush and Bill Clinton brokered a deal that put an end to the diplomatic stalemate in the Middle East. Arabs and Israelis had been at each other's necks since the end of the Second World War, making this a huge step towards peace.
The Declaration of Principles provided for limited self-rule for the Palestinians, who would in turn recognise Israel as a state, and cease to wage war against it, paving the way for an uneasy peace in the future.
