The 2010 event occupied over 20,000 square meters of floor space and attracted around 2,500 Italian and international exhibitors and over 297,000 visitors. The event is open to the general public on April 17. I Saloni is one of the biggest design events of the year and overshadows the Hong Kong Housewares fair (April 20-23) and Grand Designs London (April 30- May 8).

Founded in 1957, the China Import and Export Fair (or the Canton Fair) is held twice a year in spring and autumn. The fair covers an enormous range of products - ranging from furniture to office goods, clothing and cosmetics. Originally conceived for the purposes of linking up Chinese businesses from the country's provinces, the fair, like China itself, has expanded at breathtaking speed and last year attracted visitors from over 40 countries. According to the organizers, in 2010 more than 200,000 people visited the fair and the event accounted for 21 billion euros worth of trade. In every respect the China Import and Export Fair eclipses the Hong Kong Houseware Fair which starts on April 20.

This year's event features three themed zones, high-end designers at the Hall of Elegance, kitchen and tableware accessories in Fine Dining, and the ASEAN Select - a pavilion dedicated to exhibitors from geo-political organization the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The Hong Kong International Home Textiles Fair will be running concurrent to this event.

The event is expected to attract around 40,000 visitors and over 500 exhibitors. Though international in its nature the show is dwarfed, in terms of visitor numbers, by bathroom design show ISH (March 15-19) which attracted over 200,000 visitors and 1, 285 exhibitors.

7th Grand Designs Live
April 30 - May 8
Excel London
London, UK
Map

This UK-based home design exhibition combines practical with more cutting-edge design. The products on display here are more applicable to the mass market than the edgy designs at France's Maison & Objet for example. The event is smaller than Ambiente, attracting only 47,000 visitors in 2010 and is aimed  at those looking for designs that serve a functional role in an average household rather than those looking for unique pieces.
